Grant Writer

Remote - Indianapolis, IN

Sinapis is looking for a talented Grant Writer with a background in business as mission, entrepreneurship, or global economic development to lead our grant writing efforts. This individual understands our mission and has the skills to help audiences better comprehend our work. This position assists the development team in developing strong concepts for the solicitation of new opportunities, manages grant writing projects, develops reports, and stewards relationships with grant funders. Key performance indicators include revenue growth through grant acquisition and grant renewals.

 

Reporting To: Director of Development

Location: Remote or Indianapolis, IN

Expected Hours: Half-time, salaried

Experience: 5+ years in relevant writing experience

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Prepare proposals for major donors

  • Identify, research, and solicit funding from grant-making organizations in coordination with the development team

  • Support in editing and maintaining a robust and thorough Sinapis case statement

  • Write requests to grant makers through letters of intent, proposals, applications, and other methods

  • Assist field teams in identifying funding needs and developing proposal evaluation tools

  • Work with the finance team to develop budgets for grant applications

  • Provide prompt responses to internal and external information inquiries of the organization

  • Maintain grant records, track due dates for applications and reports; serve as point person for grant compliance, assessing if programs are meeting expectations and timelines of grant awards

  • Help Sinapis share the stories of amazing entrepreneurs who are growing businesses and bringing about economic and spiritual transformation in emerging and frontier markets

  • Ensure Sinapis brand standards are being upheld

  • Effectively leverage AI to streamline research, generate proposal drafts, and enhance data analysis, saving time while improving accuracy and creativity

  • Demonstrate the Sinapis core values of being relational, excellent, joyful, open-handed, innovative, Christ-centered, eager to serve, and a wise steward (REJOICES)

  • Lean forward to meet other needs of your manager and team as anticipated or assigned

     

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You have an amazing attention to detail with expectation of zero typos or grammatical errors

  • You are a successful writer with an interest in writing about where business, mission, and the Kingdom of God intersect for Christian international development or impact investment organizations

  • You have a great education and have excelled in demanding professional environments

  • You have experience working with teams to translate ideas into actionable items and aren’t afraid to ask “so what” to help clarify an idea for the target audience

  • You are a follower of Christ and have a healthy relationship with Him

  • You are highly organized and bring a structured process to story research and grant writing 

  • You are humble and have a teachable spirit

  • You are energetic, hardworking, and willing to go the extra mile to complete an assignment

     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A heart for our mission and a growing passion for alleviating poverty through private sector development

  • You love to write and tell stories

  • Working understanding of Facebook, Instagram, Canva, and WhatsApp

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence

  • Strong character and integrity

  • Ability to work independently in a small team environment

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Google Suite

     

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in writing, English, journalism, or marketing from a strong school

  • Work experience in an emerging market economy, preferably in East Africa

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a writing role at a nonprofit, creative agency, small business, or international mission organization that shows your ability to work on a variety of projects
